This small town in the Ouarzazate province, in the heart of the Small Atlas, has a renowned name in the world of rugs. But why are Taznakht rugs more expensive compared to other rugs? We need to understand what's behind them.
Wool: everything starts with mountain sheep
The original Taznakht rug is made from 100% wool of sheep that graze in the Atlas Mountains. This wool is strong, natural, and has natural oils that prevent it from wearing out quickly. Not like cheap rugs made from synthetic threads that look good at first but deteriorate quickly.
Each rug is handwoven
This is the key point. A Taznakht rug is woven knot by knot on a traditional wooden loom. The weaver, usually a woman from the region, spends several months on a single rug. Each knot is tied by hand. There's no machine, no rush.
